President William M. Wheeler has been a member of the Sons of the American Revolution since July 2005. He became aware and interested in the SAR after learning of his father's pursuit of membership following his passing. Since submitting the memorial application for his father and standard application for himself, he has identified 5 additional Patriots of the American Revolution.
While he has been a member of SAR since 2005, it was only in 2014 that he became active in supporting the SAR. He has served in the capacity of registrar, webmaster, vice president and president in the Fort Dearborn chapter. He has served as webmaster, region vice president, and senior vice president in the Illinois Society before becoming president.
It was through SAR that he found out about the Children of the American Revolution. His son was the president of the Major Watson society. He is a past senior state president of the Illinois Society, C.A.R. and continues to serve on the Strategic Planning Committee (SPC) of the National Society, C.A.R.
During the day, Bill is a Sr. Cloud Architect at CF Industries, Inc. Prior to joining CF Industries, he was a senior manager at Volkswagen Financial Services for 21 years overseeing the End User Computing team. He made his way into Information Technology through the Marine Corps. Bill served in the United States Marine Corps for six years active duty before transferring into the communications squadron in the Marine Corps Reserves.
Bill has an undergraduate degree in Information Technology, a Master of Business Administration, and a Masters in Nonprofit Management from North Park University. In addition to supporting SAR, Bill teaches Cybersecurity to high school students through the TEALS program and is a board member of the Marine Corps Coordinating Council of Illinois. Bill has been happily married to his wife of 18 years, Amy, and resides in Spring Grove, IL.
