The George Washington Endowment Fund (GWEF) was established in 1993 by the NSSAR Executive Committee. The fund was created to establish a permanent restricted fund which would provide annual funding support for NSSAR unfunded and underfunded committees and special projects. The fund is managed by a GWEF Board with responsibility for oversight of all aspects of the fund.
The fund has been used to support a number of projects nationwide to include:
Grave marking for Jim Capers - a free man of color
Illinois Grave Marking projects
SAR President Generals Wall
Rumbaugh Orations Project
You do not need to be a member of SAR in order become a George Washington Fellow. Spouses, children, grandchildren, nephews, and nieces are all eligible. All new George Washington Fellows receive beautiful lapel pin and a certificate acknowledging their status as a George Washington Fellow. Their name is also added to the list of all GW Fellows at the NSSAR library.
